Huge amounts of waste at PAN HOME required help from waste management company and Mil-tek machines
Reaching out for help to organize waste
Home furniture company, PAN HOME, naturally generates huge amounts of packaging waste such as cardboard, plastic and styrofoam. The company has their own logistics center for waste management, but recognized that their setup was both unsustainable and expensive. Waste was dumped and not segregated, and it was expensive to get rid of as well due to the amounts.
PAN HOME decided to team up with an external waste management company to optimize their waste management, and the waste management company brought in Mil-tek solutions.
Recognizing a waste problem
PAN HOME is a home furniture company that sells high-end furniture. Obviously, such a company produce enormous amounts of waste from packaging, particularly cardboard, plastic and styrofoam.
The company recognized that all that waste was handled inefficiently and unsustainably at their own logistics center; it was becoming difficult to handle the large volumes of waste, which was all mixed and dumped outside, and the occasional pick ups were expensive.
To change their situation, PAN HOME contacted an external waste management company to improve the waste management situation.
Sort and compact waste – and make it valuable
The external waste management company soon recognized that segregating the waste would not be sufficient. The large amounts of waste had to be baled as well, which required powerful machines that could handle the different kinds of waste. So they brought in Mil-tek machines for that purpose.
First of all, a powerful, electric baler from Mil-tek was installed to handle the different types of plastic waste. The electric baler is filled continuously with plastic, which is baled with up to 90% in volume.
For the styrefoam waste, a Mil-tek polystyrene compactor was brought in. This machine compacts up to 70 kg of styrefoam per hour, so it was the perfect solution for the huge amounts of styrefoam waste. When the styrofoam is compacted into blocks, it turns into a 100% recyclable and saleable product.
Compacting high volumes of cardboard waste
A sturdy equipment that could manage the large daily influx of cardboard waste – one of the biggest challenges for PAN HOME – was needed as well.
The Mil-tek solution was a horisontal baler that could process huge amounts of cardboard at one time, thus saving a substantial amount of time and space in PAN HOME’s logistics center.
Reduced costs, fewer pick ups and properly consumed resources
Rather than having stacks of cardboard waste, mixed with other waste materials, PAN HOME now stacks their bales of cardboard, and the external waste management center arranges the disposal of bales regularly. The result is much fewer pick ups and significant cost reductions.
With the optimized handling of cardboard, plastic and styrofoam, PAN HOME now has a higher recycling rate, all the resources are being consumed properly, and they are actually earning something out of the waste.
